Shah Baleeghuddin Saheb's
Political Career

Shah Baleeghuddin saheb's active political career began in 1983, when he met Pir Saheb Pagar the then President of Pakistan Muslim League, who invited Shah saheb to join Pakistan Muslim League and nominated him as a member of the Central Executive Committee of the party. But this affiliation did not last for long as Shah saheb's principles and political philosphy based on Islamic ideology was not compatable with the party politics. He dissociated himself from Pakistan Muslim League but continued his politial journey as an independent politician.

In the general elections of 1985, he was elected to the 7th National Assembly of Pakistan from NA 185 comprising of Nazimabad and North Nazimabad constituencies in Karachi. He won the election by a margin of 18,000 votes defeating Mehmood Azam Farooqi, the then Ameer, Karachi chapter of Jamat e Islami Pakistan.

Shah Baleeghuddin saheb was very well respected by the Parliamentarians in the Assembly as a man of strong principles and integrity. When he was offered a cabinet position in the Junejo government as an incentive to again join Pakistan Muslim League, he declined the offer as his voters elected him as an independent candidate and not on a party ticket. He preferred to stay in the opposition and was elected as the Leader of the Islamic Parliamentary Alliance in the National Assembly of Pakistan and later also served as a combined Opposition Leader for some time. Shah saheb always took honest and bold stand on various critical issues faced by the country during his membership. He was very vocal on issues faced by the Karachiites and used to get full support of combined opposition on such issues. His most valuable contribution was his private bill that led to an amendment in the constitution of Pakistan, related to Tauheen e Risalat SAW.
